6d Weddings is a boutique documentary-style wedding photography and destination wedding photography service based in Montreal, Quebec. And, as a Montreal wedding photographer we not only cover the local area in and around the city, but also across Quebec, the Eastern Townships, Ottawa, Toronto, Ontario, and Canada-wide.
But, but, is your wedding not in Montreal? Are you getting married in the United States? The Caribbean? Europe? Asia? Africa? Well, we love to travel, so we shoot destination weddings too.

Originally from the UK, Dominic is a documentary-style photographer who, after two decades of living and working around the world, is settling with his family in Montreal.
I’m a documentary photographer from the UK, now based here in Quebec, Canada. Before being a Montreal wedding photographer I spent eight years in Berlin, Germany, and prior to that, ten years in Asia; eight of those in Hanoi, Vietnam, and the other two years in China.
No. Wherever I’ve lived, alongside the local and destination weddings I’ve photographed, I’ve also shot portraits and feature stories for magazines, and covered corporate events. I like shooting a wide range of subjects and events, especially those that allow me to work on narratives; my other photo work is fun, keeps me fresh, sharpens my skills, and develops my eye for visual storytelling.
It’s best described as fly-on-the-wall documentary style. A quiet fly, not one that buzzes. But one, when it does move, moves quickly and quietly, is everywhere all at once, capturing all the important moments and details without getting in anyone’s way. A ninja fly. Seriously though, I try to be as unobtrusive as possible and document the story of your day as it unfolds, following the narrative and the emotion. And not only will I capture all those precious moments, but also the little details that make your day unique and special.
I’ll need a signed contract and a 50% non-refundable reservation deposit up front. The remaining 50% is due seven days before your wedding date.
I’ve taken bookings a couple of years in advance, and I’ve taken them a week before the wedding date. I’d recommend not making a booking too close to your wedding day though, especially if your celebrations are taking place in the peak summer months, or if you plan on having an engagement portrait session.
To cover any costs I might have already incurred, and because I have to protect my business. Once you’ve booked me, I turn down all other work for your wedding date, which means that if something changes with your wedding, I will have lost out on other leads.
Simply because that means I don’t have to chase anyone, especially in the days and weeks after your wedding, when you might be on honeymoon, not wanting someone pestering you with a bill.
Of course! I love to travel, and have spent most of my life so far doing just that. Although I now primarily photograph weddings in Montreal and Ottawa, I’ve had the privilege to also shoot weddings in both Europe and Asia. For destination weddings my photography packages are the same, but you would need to cover my travel expenses and accommodation.
Of course you can. If you’re in Montreal we can meet for a coffee and a chat to get to know each other a bit before you decide on anything, or I’m happy to jump on Skype/Facetime or talk on the phone if you’re anywhere else.
I charge flat rates, so there are no hidden costs, and add on economy travel expenses and accommodation if they’re necessary. I also offer discounted rates for off-season (November-April) and weekday weddings.
My standard Package starts from $2000 for 6 hours of coverage, and I have a variety of Packages to cover a range of needs.
However, I know every wedding is different, so if you need a Montreal wedding photographer for less than 6 hours, for wedding celebrations that will stretch over several days, I’m also happy to put together a bespoke Package for you.
Get in touch using the contact form or email – [email protected] – both to get the full Package list or if you need a tailor-made quote.
How long do we get you for?
For however long you want me. From the preparations through to the party, or anything in between. Every wedding is different, so as well as offering Wedding Photography Packages, I can also tailor-make my services to your needs.
Should we book a second photographer?
A second photographer can be handy if you’re having a particularly large celebration. Having two photographers can also give you more photos, add multiple viewpoints to your wedding day, and also ensure that there’s someone out there photographing your guests when the principal photographer is shooting group shots or couple portraits. I’m pretty good at running around and being everywhere I need to be though, so it’s best we discuss it first. If you do decide on hiring two photographers, I have some that I work with and can recommend to you.
Should we have an ‘unplugged’ wedding?
You should definitely consider it. As you’re spending a lot of money hiring a professional photographer, you might want to minimise the chance of that photographer’s shots being missed or ruined by, for example, a guest suddenly stepping into the aisle and in front of the photographer’s lens, or using their flash. While it might be hard to ban your guests from taking photos, you could always suggest that they don’t take photographs, and in my experience it works. Your guests are free to fully experience your special day, and your wedding photographer is free to photograph it unimpeded.
This blog post sums up the reasons for and benefits of an unplugged wedding nicely.
Do you shoot video too?
I don’t. I can’t. I have two hands. But I can recommend a videographer to you if necessary.
Are you and your equipment insured?
Yes I am, and yes it is.
Who will be photographing my wedding?
Dominic will. I will. 6d Weddings is a boutique wedding photography service, and I, Dominic, am its principal photographer.
If you photograph my wedding can I also have a discounted engagement shoot?
Of course! If you hire me as your Montreal wedding photographer, I offer a heavily discounted rate for a couple shoot too in the weeks leading up to your special day.
Would you shoot my wedding exclusively in black and white?
Yes of course. While I normally shoot primarily in colour (with select images I think would suit black and white, in black and white), I love black and white imagery so I’d be more than happy to cover your wedding celebrations purely in black and white if that’s what floats your boat.
Yes I do. Although I try not to spend too long on them, so it’s best just to choose a few groups. You’ve hired me to capture the story of your wedding, so that’s where I like to be.
Normally always. But the amount of time we spend on those is totally up to you. Some couples are happy to take a chunk of time out of their day to have special portraits taken together, while others prefer just to quickly take a few shots as they don’t want to be away from their guests for too long. The day is about you as a couple, so you can decide how much, if any, time you’d like to spend on this, and when.
And if you do want portraits (and you’re feeling adventurous) I can take my Holga with me and we can get creative with a roll of film (black and white, or colour, your choice) alongside shooting digital images. The results can be unpredictable (which is why I always continue to shoot digital at the same time), but when it works, there’s nothing quite like it.
I normally share a couple of preview images a day or two after your wedding, for you to share with your family and friends and on social media (if you like). Then the full selection is generally ready within three weeks of your wedding, sometimes sooner, sometimes a little later if it’s a particularly busy period.
Normally upwards of 400. But this is a very rough estimate. It depends on how long I shoot for, and exactly what happens during your celebrations. I often take thousands of photos during the day, and I edit them down to a final selection containing all of the photos I think you’ll be happy with.
Yes you can. They are yours to keep, and you can print and share them to your heart’s content.
Yes I do. Yes I can.
If you would like me to do that, I’m happy to. However if you want to make the selection yourselves, I can set up a personal proofing gallery for you to do so.
I’m looking forward to hearing from you and being part of your celebrations!
