Having engagement portraits taken in the days (or months) before your wedding ceremony can be a great way to get comfortable in front of the camera, and to spend some relaxed time with your photographer, getting to know their style, and getting to know each other.
While your celebrations might take place in a location that’s completely new to you, pre-wedding photos can be taken anywhere: in places that are meaningful to you as a couple – the place you first met, shared your first kiss – or simply your favourite locations in or around wherever you live.
Engagement portraits are the perfect way to get ready for your wedding day while capturing both the spirit of your love and the spirit of a place.
And if you also plan on having me as your wedding photographer, know that I offer discounted engagement portraits sessions to my couples as part of my wedding photography packages.
I’ve taken pre-wedding photos in city streets, parks, airfields, and temples, and have even sneaked into an abandoned ballroom to capture the shots my couple was looking for.
Of course I don’t only do couple shoots for those who intend on getting married. I offer stand-alone sessions of purely portrait photography for anyone who wants to celebrate and commemorate their love with a special set of images; girlfriends, boyfriends, old or young, couples who never plan on marrying, couples who’ve been married for fifty years – all are welcome.
And as for where to take your photographs? I’m happy to suggest you great locations, or you can pick your own!

“My partner and I normally feel uncomfortable in front of a camera but with Dominic we felt very comfortable. We are so happy with the photos and got great compliments from our friends and family. Thank you Dominic for your great work!” – Jessie Kim
Engagement portrait sessions are a fantastic way for couples to get comfortable in front of a camera, and also spend some time with their wedding photographer, getting to know them and their style of working. Couple shoots are also a great opportunity to take some shots of the two of you not dressed in something other than your wedding clothes, in a place or places that are meaningful to you, and that are perfect for use on your wedding invitations or thank you cards.
And if you’re not getting married, then couple shoots are just a great way to have some fantastic images taken together to celebrate your love.
My sessions last 2 hours, which is a good amount of time to cover more than one location, and get a nice selection of shots. But of course I’m happy to do (and have done) longer sessions of up to a day with multiple locations if you like. Just get in touch with your ideas and we can work out what’s best for you.
Upwards of 50 fully-edited, high-resolution images, depending on the number of locations.
$550 + taxes. This includes 2 hours of photography, photo processing, and any time I’ve spent scouting locations to get ideas for your portraits.
I’ll send you a sneak peek of one or two pictures usually within 48 hrs, and two weeks after your shoot I’ll send you the completed selection of your images in a private gallery.
I’m happy to suggest beautiful locations for you, but the best portrait sessions often take place in locations that are meaningful to you as a couple. Perhaps where you met, shared your first kiss, or proposed.
I don’t, and for the moment have no plans to (not only because of covid). Outdoor locations, in my view, are best for couple shoots.
Whatever you feel comfortable in really. Neutral colours often work best. And you can bring multiple outfits or outfit elements too if you like. As we plan your shoot we can decide what would be best to wear depending on the location(s) you choose.
For some creative shots I’ll pose you, for other shots I’ll give you light direction, and for others I might just see what happens! I like a mix, and I find the best shots happen when my couples are relaxed and just enjoying being with each other.
I love it when couples are actively involved in making the photos. That way it feels more like a collaboration. So I’m always up for trying anything you might have in mind.
